MINIPOWER
------------------

ANGLELOCK
------------------

(final)Compare and contrast living at home and in the dormitory

I have been living in the dormitory since I entered NTUST in Taipei, which is far away from my hometown, Taichung, and is my first time living outside my lovely home. There are many differences between these two types of living. To name just a few, they include privacy, relationship, and cost.

First, living at dormitory means I have to share space with my roommates. In fact, I live with five roommates in a small room. It’s hard to hide information from one another. For example, we all know what others are doing, and who others are talking to on the Internet. That is to say, I don’t have any privacy. However, this kind of problem would not happen if I live at home in my own room.

Second, living at the dormitory helps me establish deep friendship with my roommates because I can share everything, including not only the school works but also my thoughts with them. On the other hand, living at home provides me with more opportunities to talk to my families about what I do in the school every day. That is to say, living at home lets me get closer to my families instead of friends.

The last part is the cost which makes the major difference between these two kinds of living style. While living at dormitory requires rents every semester, living at home doesn’t. Furthermore, I have to not only think about what to eat when I am hungry but take the price of food into consideration given the limited amount of monthly allowance. This certainly causes no burden at all when I live at home.

To sum up, there are both benefits and drawbacks of living at home and in the dormitory. Personally speaking, I prefer to living at dormitory. Although it costs more money, it forces me to learn how to manage my money. Most importantly, living at dormitory makes me grow independent by taking care of myself.

Response to "Cigarettes kill, but don't tell smokers".

I didn’t totally agree with the author’s point of discussion. In the article, he said that we cannot ask smokers to quit by heath reasons because most of them smoke to establish their self-esteem.
In my opinion, stress is the major reason that some people smoke. For instance, one of my friends started smoking because he got a Dear John letter from his girlfriend which had been with him for two years. After that, he smoke and drink excessively. After he had a new girlfriend, he quit smoking. So I think not all smokers smoke due to their willingness. Sometimes, they have no choice but to do that.

(final)Why did I choose my major?

Why did I choose my major?
I chose industrial design as my school major out of my own will instead of parents’ hope. That is to say, I definitely know why I chose industrial design as my major. There are three main reasons for this very choice.
First, I love beautiful things such as fine arts, beautiful scenery or something that touches my heart. So I love going outside, taking pictures, even sketching immediately just to record what I’ve seen. These also help me develop a sense of beauty which is one of the most important abilities in designing. Second, I want to improve the quality of our daily life which looks messy nowadays. Though the technology has improved our life much, there are still a lot of appliances or devices which are not so easy to use. So, we should solve problems in human’s point of view. In other words, we should think more for humans. That is what an industrial designer does, and that is also what I want to do. The third reason is that I am talented in arts. Since my grandfather is an art teacher, he has influenced me a lot. When I was a child in baby cradle, I saw him drawing which made me laugh and happy. However, he died soon after I had been born; thus I can’t learn drawing from him. But this drives me to draw harder. I went to cram school to learn drawing, sketching, and I even draw comic books myself. That is how I love drawing which is also an indispensible ability for design.
Most importantly, I have a dream to design my own car which is not only fancy but also have good performance. Just like design, it should be both rational and sensitive. So, if there is anyone who asks me, “why did you choose design as your major? ” I would say, “because I have a dream”.

(final)Self Introduction

My name is Tsung, Chih-Hsien. I came from Taichung. I am a sophomore in National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and I major in Industrial Design.

There are five people in my family. My parents are both retired teachers while my two older sisters are both teaching English in high schools.

My parents play an important role in my life. First, I love photography. I always take a camera with me so that I can record my life anytime and send my excellent works to my friends through the Internet. Second, I take pleasure in watching movies. Sometimes I go to movies with friends, but mostly I go to the theater with my father since he loves watching movie, too. Apart from these, I am deeply in love with exercising, especially playing basketball and tennis. Since my father is a PE teacher, I has been exercising since I was a child. He always tells me, “Exercising makes you healthy.”Now, to polish my skill in playing ball, I join the department basketball team. Last but not least, I spend most of my leisure time drawing, hoping one day to become an automobile designer so that I can drive the car designed on my own.
